The project includes activities to improve children’s soft skills and expertises in various fields including robotics, coding, theatre; to raise awareness and reduce early school leaving; to support parents through parenting programs; to strengthen private and non-private services targeting children and families; and to improve and renovate school spaces.Context analysisEducational poverty is a widespread and multidimensional problem that affects an increasing number of children, adolescents and youth. In Italy, over 1 million children between the ages of 3 and 18 live in absolute poverty, while the school leaving rate in 2016 reached 13.8%. Educational poverty limits the opportunities that children and adolescents must enjoy in order to have a complete and adequate psycho-physical growth and to acquire the skills and competencies essential for their educational and working future. Educational poverty generally manifests itself in contexts characterized by poor economic development, social exclusion and degradation and further exacerbates the cycle of poverty where children are trapped.Milan, MI, ItaliaBari, BA, ItaliaPalermo, PA, ItaliaReggio Calabria, RC, ItaliaThe project is implemented in 4 cities including Milan, Palermo, Bari and Reggio Calabria.Implementation Period 01/08/2018 - 31/07/2022BeneficiariesDirect4.000 lower and upper secondary school students involved in curricular and anti drop-out courses (11-16 years old)300 teachers involved in training courses1.600 adults involved3.000 adults have access to the service desk in the schoolsIndirect7.000 lower secondary school students benefit indirectly from the activities in the schools3.000 secondary school students indirectly involved in activities against the drop out in the schools10.000 adults benefit from the project activities100,000 citizens reached by information and awareness-raising activities Project StrategyActivitiesSchool laboratories/ trainingsJob counseling Training of community coaches Renovation of school buildings and public spacesSchool help desks for parentsCommunication and advocacyImpact evaluation OutputsArchitectural renovations of school spacesSet up of innovation gym (fablab, coding lab, media art lab, robotic lab) Social theatre workshops for studentsAfter-school programs for studentsSmartbox with cultural, social and work offers of each reference area, for families and studentsItinerant information desks for the educational community Workshops for preventing and reducing early school leaving (empowerment, orientation and self-entrepreneurship)Training courses for parents and teachers OutcomesSchool drop-out rate and early school leaving will be reduced Children skills will be improved Educational stakeholders’ network will be expanded and integrated Services inside and outside schools will be created/strengthened LinksDo you want to know more projects on poverty? / View website Previous Next
