Objective of the project

We worked to give citizens an active role in the material reconstruction of their villages and communities affected by earthquakes.

Abstract of the project

The project promotes the empowerment of the earthquake affected communities through individual and community psychological support activities for the containment and the overcoming of post-traumatic manifestations; school labs to strengthen students’ connection with the territory and empowerment activities for local groups and associations in order to restore and re-activate the community life.

Context analysis

Between August 2016 and January 2017, a series of earthquakes hit Central Italy causing numerous victims and material damages particularly in Abruzzo, Marche, Lazio and Umbria regions. About 512,000 people, among those who lived in the 140 municipalities of the so-called ‘earthquake zone’, suffered material and psychophysical consequences. Life habits, traditions and spaces of community engagement changed due to the emergency. New needs such as the request of psychological support linked to adaptation, parental and relationship issues  as well as problems related to living in isolation emerged.
