Objective of the project
We have worked to improve the socio-economic integration and inclusion of young NEETs in the regions of Southern Italy
Abstract of the project
The main objective has been to map and create networks with the main actors dedicated to minors or young people such as institutional or associative realities (formal and informal), cooperatives, host communities, aggregation centres active in the both territories. Among the activities, the project has foreseen sports training in order to work on the abilities and limits of young people; group and individual motivational training to identify their professional goals; career coaching activities, and also awareness and communication activities on the topic.
Context analysis
According to Eurostat 2016 data, Italy has the highest number of young people aged 15-29 years old not in education, employment or training (NEET) in the European Union. The phenomenon of NEETs affects the whole country even if the greatest percentage can be seen in the South (34%), followed by the Center (19.5%) and then by the North (15.5%) (UNICEF, 2019). NEETs are exposed to the risk of marginalization and socio-economic exclusion because they are outside the education system and/ or the labour market.
ActionAid is currently implementing a “TEAMWORK” project also in Milan.
The project was implemented in Bari and Reggio Calabria (Italy).
