District Coordination Arghillà, Municipality of Bari, Municipality of Reggio Calabria

Objective of the project

To enhance the socio-economic integration and inclusion of NEETs

Context analysis

According to the Eurostat 2016 data, Italy has the highest number of young people aged 15-29 years old not in education, employment or training (NEET) in the European Union. NEETs face serious risks of being socio-economically excluded and marginalized as they are not part of the education system or the job market. In addition, at the macro-economic level NEETs represents a cost for the welfare system of a country as they are often dependent on subsidies and other supporting measures. The NEET group is composed of people with different backgrounds and personal stories ranging from long-term unemployed to younger people facing challenges just entering the labour market. Finally, a large number of NEETs comes from marginalized areas with lack or limited availability of services, lower economic and development indicators, and higher unemployment rates.
