This report addresses the issue of return and in particular that of repatriation within the contemporary migration and development policies implemented at European and Italian level. In this regard, the document provides a detailed analysis of the case of Gambia and the assisted returns from Libya and Niger carried out in recent years. It ends with a series of recommendations addressed to Italian, European and Gambian institutions in order to promote a reform of policies on return capable of guaranteeing the fundamental human rights of migrants and sustainable reintegration.
